High Honours In The Hamlet
Glen Williams resident Russell Braun received much deserved recognition for his accomplishments as an internationally renowned opera singer and cultural ambassador for our country on Friday when it was announced that he would be one of the 100 new recipients of the Order of Canada. While Russell is known around the world for his contributions on the world stage, he is much beloved here at home for the admirable contributions he has made in his own backyard. Russell and his wife Carolyn Maule continually add to the fabric of our community in countless & immeasurable ways, enriching the lives of young and old alike… and for that we thank you.
The Right Honourable David Johnston, The Governor General of Canada, had this to say about the recipients.
“I am delighted to recognize these new recipients of the Order of Canada in this milestone year,” said Johnston. “Besides marking Canada’s 150th anniversary, 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Order. So let’s be inspired by the examples set by these remarkable Canadians and use this occasion to build a smarter and more caring country in which every individual can succeed to the greatest extent possible.”
“Three Cheers… and Bravo to Russell. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and as much as you are an Ambassador of Canada in your work abroad, you are also our very own and we are proud and happy the Hamlet is your home.
If you would like to hear Russell and Carolyn perform in person make sure to reserve your ticket for Sunday, January 29th where they will perform in the 3rd Annual Inspiring Spaces Concert Series at St. John’s United Church (Georgetown Location).
