ATTENTION ALL RESIDENTS:

The Town of Halton Hills has received a development proposal for 159 Confederation Street that calls for excessive housing density; it would require significant changes to zoning and it will generate more vehicle traffic than the community and natural environment can absorb.
The GWCA is hiring third-party experts to present a strong case at the upcoming Town Council meeting in March and at future Ontario Land Tribunal hearings and trials if necessary. It will be a long process and the GWCA expects they will need to raise more than $80,000 to fund it. Your generous donation will help fund this crucial effort.
Why This Matters
The Glen Williams Secondary Plan is designed to guide growth and change in a way that preserves the unique character and natural environment of the hamlet. Our community devoted countless volunteer hours to the Town of Halton Hills to create this plan and it was officially approved by Halton Region in July 2022 – less than 3 years ago. Since then developers have sought to chip away at elements of the plan and this latest development proposal essentially ignores it altogether.
How This Impacts The Glen
This particular development proposal is extremely concerning. Among other things it:
  • includes 81 townhouses, which are explicitly prohibited by the secondary plan;
  • proposes a 420% increase in the amount of density that is allowed;
  • calls for much lower setbacks and space around buildings than is allowed;
  • creates real concerns about pedestrian and cyclist safety, roadway noise, and congestion.
If this goes ahead as proposed, it will set an alarming precedent and potentially enable further inappropriate development in Glen Williams.
In short: The GWCA supports housing development in Glen Williams in accordance with the Secondary Plan, but strongly opposes the proposal at 159 Confederation Street, which vastly exceeds the allowable density and would irreparably damage the character of The Glen.
