Snowbirds honour Halton Hills as Canada’s most patriotic town with flyover
The Snowbirds, otherwise known as the Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, made an appearance over Halton Hills on Thursday (Aug. 31).
The flyover was in honour of Halton Hills officially earning the title of Canada’s Most Patriotic Town after breaking the record for the most Canadian flags flown within a town on Canada Day.
Residents in Halton Hills flew 57,073 flags on Canada’s 150th birthday, shattering the old record by tens of thousands of flags.
Hundreds of red-and-white-clad Halton Hills residents gathered at various sites across the area to watch the flyover, which took place around 1:55 p.m.
A giant 20-by-40-foot flag was unfurled at Prospect Park as a nod to the event and the pilots as they flew over. Similar flags were also on display at other sites.
“I’m delighted that this recognition by such an esteemed and valued symbol of Canada will be sharing their talents with our community,” said mayor Rick Bonnette in a release earlier in the week.
Sarah & Scott Simpson of locally (Glen Williams) based Yorkshire Enterprises helped organize the event.
