Wiarton Willie’s prediction of the timing of spring is a news event that captures the interests of people around the world. Yesterday, under cloudy skies, a light snow and with a brisk west wind, Wiarton Willie didn’t see his shadow and predicted an early spring. Tradition says that if a groundhog sees its shadow when it emerges from its burrow on Groundhog Day, there will be six more weeks of winter. If the groundhog doesn’t see its shadow, spring is on the way.
Looks like we will have warm days coming soon so we can get ready for our 150th Birthday Celebration in Glen Williams on Canada Day!
Have you Volunteered Yet?
There are lots of fun jobs to do on July 1st.
Contact us if you’d like to help.
Also, if you know of a firm or individuals who might want to be a sponsor for part of the day or for a specific event, please let the Canada Day Committee know. In spite of all the wonderful and talented volunteers, there are still expenses in the region of $6000. that are not covered by a nominal government grant.
