| About the GWCA |
The Glen Williams Community Association
(GWCA) was formed to promote, enhance and protect the village atmosphere
of Glen Williams and to represent members' positions on matters
pertaining to the hamlet, including (but not limited to) safety,
heritage, development, facilities, environment and events. Early in 1999 a group of Glen neighbours shared their concerns about preserving our unique and treasured hamlet, and its character in times of hectic pace and rapid subdivision development all around us. Rather than wait for things to happen to our village, the group was formed to actively participate with Council and all other relevant groups to ensure that the status of the hamlet would be maintained and the desires of the residents heard and respected. Thus the GWCA was formed, and since then the Executive and its' members have spent countless hours researching issues, attending meetings, sitting on steering committees, making presentations to Council and lobbying officials. These efforts focused on numerous issues including a Heritage designation, the Halton Hills Strategic Plan, the North Halton Transportation Study, all development issues, traffic concerns and the Glen Williams Secondary Plan. Possibly our greatest success so far was being invited to be part of the steering committee, set up by our local Council, helping to write the Glen Williams Secondary Plan. This process took over three years to complete, establishing clear rules and limitations to changes in the village in an attempt to preserve the village atmosphere that all of our members wished to maintain. One of our current tasks is involvement with transportation issues, and this has begun by having members sitting on the Steering Committee for any possible redesign of Wildwood Road, and any subsequent effects this might have on traffic volumes through the village. |
